The NMU Women’s Hockey Team was established in 2000. We are a proud member of the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association), which is an organization of 566 college and university-affiliated programs that provides structure, regulates operations, and promotes the quality of high-level collegiate ice hockey. We are also member of the CCWHA (Central Collegiate Women’s Hockey Association) Division II, which includes Michigan State University, University of Notre Dame, Loyola University of Chicago, Central Michigan University, Adrian College, Aurora University, Lake Superior State University, Sault College, Ohio State University, University of Jamestown, Hope College, Bowling Green State University, Lawrence Technological University, and Miami-Ohio University. In addition to playing teams within our conference, we also schedule games against other Division I and II programs within the CCWHA/ACHA. As a team, we care deeply about one another and prioritize having a positive attitude. We are all very committed, hard-working individuals who are always looking to improve ourselves and to uplift one another.
Dues are around $2500, depending on the number of players each season. This covers ice time, conference/league dues, referees, staff, merchandise, etc. in addition to transportation and lodging; however, players are expected to purchase team warm-ups and pay for their meals on road trips. Members are also required to keep the Student Recreation Fee that is included in tuition and fees, as it is required for both Fall and Winter semesters.
All of their own hockey equipment. Each player is required to have a black helmet and black gloves. Jerseys, socks, and shells are provided by the team.
Travel generally includes southern Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, and Canada. The team occasionally travels on Fridays, so if possible we recommend that players do not schedule Friday classes.
